Cape Schanck Residence is a contemporary coastal home positioned high in the hills, shaped by scale, restraint and uninterrupted views across the peninsula, bay and surrounding golf courses. With a calm interior palette, refined detailing and a deliberate connection to outlook, the home allows its landscape to remain the defining feature. Built by Forster Constructions in collaboration with Lewis Building Design and 3DHD Interior Design, the project reflects the value of considered execution, where clean architectural lines, complex structural moments and tailored interior details are brought together with precision. From the floating staircase to the monolithic kitchen island, every element has been resolved to support a home that feels open, grounded and quietly commanding.

The design steps back and allows the landscape to take the lead, creating a calm, grounded backdrop that enhances rather than distracts.
Perched high in the hills of Cape Schanck, this home is defined by its commanding views across the peninsula, the bay, and surrounding golf courses. The interior response was deliberate and restrained.
The design steps back and allows the landscape to take the lead. A minimal, modern contemporary palette of soft, earthy tones creates a calm, grounded backdrop that enhances rather than distracts. The scale of the home is embraced and elevated through considered detailing.
A monolithic kitchen island, wrapped on four sides in porcelain with a natural stone expression, reads as a solid sculptural form. Subtle curves were introduced to soften key transitions, most notably at the arched entry to the butler’s pantry, where curved joinery and benchtops create a more fluid, welcoming connection between spaces.
Floor-to-ceiling doors, pared-back finishes, and subtle P50 skirting maintain clean lines throughout, reinforcing both the height and openness of the spaces.
The arrival experience was a critical moment in the home. Working closely with Lewis Building Design and the project engineer, a floating staircase was developed, with treads projecting cleanly from the wall and no visible support, creating a striking sense of lightness. This is paired with a full-height glass balustrade, preserving uninterrupted sightlines and amplifying the connection through the home.
From the moment you enter, the design draws your eye down a wide, uncluttered hallway directly to the view beyond, creating an immediate sense of scale and clarity. Beyond the main living zones, the home was carefully tailored to its occupants, with individual office spaces designed to reflect their different needs, both anchored by outlook and natural light.
